It evaluates the strategy, not merely the wallet.
A wallet, vault or automated account is an evidence source. The object being underwritten is the trading strategy: how returns were produced, what risks were taken, whether behaviour persists across regimes, what capacity exists and whether another institution could practically obtain exposure.
Process
Observation becomes a controlled research record.
OpenStrategy separates source evidence from calculated measures, analytical interpretation and human conclusions. The workflow observes activity, verifies provenance and coverage, reconstructs performance, evaluates quality dimensions, records caveats and monitors material change.
Onchain transparency improves traceability, but it does not by itself establish operator identity, offchain dependencies, access, custody, legal fit, capacity or reproducibility.
Illustrative evidence problem
A wallet-level return can change after flows are understood.
Suppose an account value rises sharply on the same interval that new capital arrives. A naive balance comparison can attribute the deposit to trading performance. Underwriting separates account-value change, inferred flow and profit-and-loss evidence before estimating return. If timing or source coverage remains incomplete, the calculation is labelled with that limitation rather than treated as precise.
The same discipline applies beyond returns: visible positions can show exposure, but they do not by themselves prove operator identity, legal access, execution costs or the amount of capital the strategy can absorb.
Decision boundary
Underwriting supports a decision; it does not automate approval.
